Dinosaural Cogmeister is a single guitar booster/overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedal, containing a trio of compatible sections arranged in fixed series pattern. These comprise the Push, Drive, and Solo sections, each featuring its own true/hard-wire bypass stomp switch and corresponding LED.
The Cogmeister pedal is a trio of compatible booster effects, which are arranged in a fixed series chain, with true/hard-wire bypass mechanical foot switches. The central red LED is designed to dim noticeably, relative to the other two LEDs, whenever the battery gets too low and/or supply voltage drops.
Dinosaural Cogmeister controls are configured as follows: all the gain and/or level controls are found along the top row, while the timbre and/or tone controls are situated along the bottom row. The 3 effects are marked by the two vertical white lines, and each effect has its own bypass switch.
The 'Solo' section of Cogmeister is at the output end of the signal chain, and this may be used to give a moderate, clean 'flat' signal boost, or a progressively higher gain, but narrower bandwidth midrange boost, with increasing distortion as the PEAK control is advanced clockwise. This can be for lifting solos level, and/or generally increasing intensity and focus. The LEV control affects the output volume of the solo section, and the whole pedal when the green LED is on. This is worth knowing when things get loud!
Dinosaural Cogmeister's 'Drive' section in the center is an overdrive/booster, with a modified EQ curve and greater tonal options, plus an extra gain stage for more harmonics, especially when the VOL control is turned up high. The 3-position SHIFT switch modifies the low-frequency range of the adjacent TONE (low-high frequency balance) control, giving 3 distinct resulting midrange contours to suit a variety of amp and loudspeaker configurations, as well as evoking various classic amp timbres in and of itself. The SUS control determines the input gain range of this section and increases the harmonics and speeds up the rise time of the distortion when turned clockwise. A relatively clean 'warm' boost may be obtained with SUS turned down.
The 'Push' section is a late 1960s style, single-transistor treble (or more accurately, upper- midrange) booster, with an adjustable GAIN boost control, and adjustable bandwidth on the LOW control, which when set anticlockwise only boosts the upper partials (harmonics), and when turned clockwise introduces back the fundamentals (low frequencies), which also results in a 'feral', crunchy distortion with the GAIN turned up. This can drive subsequent stages into a 'pushed' overdrive distortion/fuzz effect or drive an amplifier input harder for more intense energy and sustain: especially useful for when recording 'heavy' guitar.
Dinosaural Cogmeister has an enormous gain range of the combined three sections, which essentially constitute an early 70s-style fuzz-box, with far greater versatility. The all-discrete, Class-A, silicon transistor circuitry gives an authentic, vintage sound, and each section has its own unique distortion characteristics.
Specifications:
7.25" L x 4.5" W x 1.5" H
1.55 lb
Current consumption at 9 volts DC is between 7 and 16mA
True Bypass footswitches
Power Supply (sold separately): this pedal can use a 9-volt battery, or the standard 2.1mm plug, 9 Volt DC, Center-Negative power supply, (like most all guitar pedals use), up to a maximum of 12-volt power supply. A high-quality, stand-alone power supply is recommended for best sound and lowest noise at high gains. Any power supply higher than 12 Volt DC can damage the pedal.
