The Kollaps is the third and final revision to my take on a well loved and legendary fuzz circuit that stands as a testament to the idea that a pedal ought to be as physically huge as it sounds and that pedalboards need not ever be friendly. Using high quality components as well as NOS transistors and diodes, it pays an eye catching homage to a jaw dropping explosion of sound and adds to the sonic manifesto that we have always unwaveringly stood by.
Whether in an attempt to capture the sounds of jet engines roaring overhead or trying hard to tear speaker cones to shreds, the Univox Super Fuzz has been essential to myself and countless others for championing that proverbial wall of sound since its original release in the late 1960s and this is the realm wherein the Kollaps fuzz comfortably sits.
In addition to the very aggressive Super Fuzz sound, a switchable active Baxandall tone stack, EQ and Preamp was implemented to the Kollaps, offering 12dB of boost or cut in the tone controls as well as nearly a 24dB boost in output volume (controllable via an internal trim pot) giving the original Super Fuzz sound a whole lot more harmonic content to play around with as well as significantly more volume on tap than the original fuzz offered!
Originally released as the limited run ‘Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose’, it is with great excitement that I get to share this revised, updated and now permanent addition to the family which sounds every bit as wonderful as you might expect it to.
A bit more about the Kollaps Fuzz/PreAmp:
A classic octave fuzz using a combination of 6 NOS transistors and germanium diodes to produce square wave clipping and full-wave rectification for upper octave as well as slight lower octave overtones
A 1kHz Mid-Scoop Tone Toggle Switch, faithful to the original Super Fuzz design
Switchable Active Baxandall EQ controls, offering up to 12dB of frequency boost above 12 o’clock or 12dB of frequency roll off below 12 o’clock
Separate Internal Trim Pots to adjust both the amount of octave overtone (bias) and the overall output of the PreAmp section (boost)
Lovingly hand-made in Montréal, Québec with high quality components
STANDARD 2.1mm CENTRE-NEGATIVE 9vDC POWER SUPPLY. This pedal requires 100mA.
